GUITAR AMPS. How big of an amp would I need to play a bar or small club?
Also, can you just run any size amp througha P.A.? Do the singers voice and the guitar have to go through different P.A.’s?
A combo amp with a single 12 in speaker or twin 12 in speakers would work wonderfully for a bar or small club. I suggest the Line 6 Spider III 112 for a solid state combo amp, or a peavey classic 30 for a tube amp for your situation depending on your tone expectations. The vocals would need to go through a seperate PA system though to get a good sound, as putting them through the guitar amp would not yield even a decent result. I recommend one of the Behringer PA system packages available at www.musiciansfriend.com. So basically use at least one 12 inch speaker for the guitar and a seperate PA for the vocals.
