Would the Moon make a good (future) penal colony?
In Heinlein’s “the Moon is a Harsh Mistress,” Luna is chosen as a penal colony which over time becomes home to less and less criminals, much like what occurred (let’s hope LOL — j/k mate) in Australia.
Imagine a distant future when Earth is overly crowded and the Moon has established life support systems in place.
Would you favour sending hardened, incorrigible convicts to the Moon?
Perhaps they would voluntarily go if the pay were good!
Not bad idea at first but as it is we already spend way too much on prisoners in America. Unless it becomes cheap to get into space through an advance in technology it is cost prohibitive.
