Bass Head

How do I take the head off of my bass drum?

I want to mute it by stuffing a towel into it, but there is no hole. The guy I asked said to take the head off and put the towel in and screw the head back on, but I do not know how to do that.

I would recommend removing the front head, not the batter head. There are lugs, probably T shaped (but may look like the lugs on the other drums with the squared head) that hold brackets holding the rim in place to tension the drum head. Unscrew the lugs, either by hand or with the drum key, and pull the rim and head off. Place towels or whatever you want inside the drum and just reverse the process, put on the head > rim > brackets/lugs and tighten until you have the sound you like.
