120GB ATA HDD is not being detected by WINDOWS XP through HDD CASING !?
Hi,
Well I want to transfer my data from old HDD to new HDD. For this I am using a HDD casing (3.5 inches) and connecting through USB port. I heard that in windows xp this HDD casing would work as a plug and play device.
But it is not detecting the HDD casing. Why?

i want to transfer from old HDD to new HDD…and the old HDD is on the casing
so i really cant format it you know
any more suggestions ??
is it SATA or PATA? PATA needs a master/slave relationship through jumper on the back and SATA is plug and play, you will need to partition it and all to be able to use the NTFS system
and you have to also understand the HDD may just be a bad one
