How can i get the guitar sounds and effects that are heard in u2’s “Bullet The Blue Sky”?

Does anyone know what sort of guitar pedals ‘The Edge’ uses on U2’s song ‘Bullet the Blue Sky’ or any of the other Delay effects on the Joshua Tree? I’m particularly interested in the very beginning of ‘Bullet The Blue Sky’ before the sliding guitar sound comes in.

I do it the lazy man’s way..

1. Tune down 1/2 step
2. Use a Vox AC30 & play it loud..
3. Big muff distortion
4. Wah-Wah – Dunlop in my case
5. Hit the chords & use the whammy [not very subtlety] & wah-wah [subtlety] to create the movement
6. There are delays & reverbs as well – see this site where someone with waaayyy to much time on their hands has dissected edge’s guitar sound [mainly the delay] to a ridiculous amount of detail – http://www.amnesta.net/edge_delay/

I also kind of think its partially the effects, & partially in the way you play, there is a lot of muting & letting strings ring – listen to what’s coming out of the amp & compare that to the CD – just by using your ears & some standard effects you should be able to get pretty close.
