Neck Plate

Could someone tell me why a Dr. would put titanium plates in my neck for decompression surgery?

I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, he did a laminectomy saying he would go in an take the tissue out. I never heard one thing about titanium plates. Of course, I know maybe it was necessary. He never sent me to any kind of therapy. I hurt so bad I finally ask my medical doctor to send me to phys therapy. it helped some. Now I’m in massage therapy and it’s really helping. Seems like as soon as they get their surgery over, they’re ready to move on to the next patient,no matter what shape they have left you in. Does any have an answer or opinion to this ? Iwould apprechiate it.

UNFORTUNATELY that is the way doctors are being trained these days>>>they are taught they have 7 mins per patient and no a second more. Get in/get out. You are just another # to them and there are very few who feel any other way>>>>that is the way healthcare has evolved in the last 37yrs….I’m a RN and I have been on the receiving end of shoddy orthopedic care too. I went to surgery for a torn rotator cuff and thought I was getting a cadaver cuff or a man-made one. I woke up in a lot of pain and with one of the PCA pumps with narcotics but didn’t know the MD had told me he did NOTHING for my shoulder because the cuff was so badly destroyed and he doesn’t use cadaver cuffs. I only learned that from the Physcial Therapist was on my first visit to her when she refused to touch me because I didn’t have a sling on. He told me not to wear it if it was too hot out, so I didn’t. Now I’m stuck with NO rotator cuff and what is called a “sloppy shoulder” and the only kind of surgery to fix that is a poor outcome one, so I am trying to change Nursing specialties at age 54 and get out of the ER and all the lifting and pulling on HEAVIER AND HEAVIER PATIENTS and into something less strenuous.
I’m sorry you have had the same crummy treatment. Just know they don’t treat RNs any better. Its a sad day for healthcare.
